There's no question that Moodle improves access to learning materials. But does it improve the quality of learning episodes? Probably only when we take the trouble to use it as Martin intended — as a social constructionist environment. We need to be designing and building activities in which students can participate and contribute: simulations, roleplays, and games. We need to be situating our students using stuff like QR-codes and iPads that tie our virtual learning environment to annotated physical spaces... only then will we be making real progress with this stuff.
